In this section, we will learn how to export our NAPLAN data for use in SPAstandard.

Step 1a

Navigate to the Scout website and log in to your school's account.

https://education.nsw.gov.au/about-us/education-data-and-research/scout

Step 1b

Choose NAPLAN Data

  1. Choose Student Class and reports.
  2. Select Class results and growth.

Step 2

  1. Choose Results-all participation types

Step 3

  1. Choose 'All' under Enrolment type group
  2. Select Assessment Year
  3. Select Year Level

Step 4

Select the three dots, indicating the More options icon and choose Export Data.

Step 6

  1. Select Summarised Data.

  2. Select CSV as the file format.

  3. Select Export to download.

The valid output of the CSV export will have the following headers.

  • Assessment
  • SRN
  • First name
  • Last name
  • Participation type
  • Domain
  • Scaled score
  • Proficiency level

The file will now download to your computer.

Unzip the downloaded file.

Step 7

Open your file/s and insert one column to the left of the column labelled 'Assessment'. Then label this new column 'Year'. (Please make sure this word is capitalised.)

Step 8

Then, input the correct year into the first two cells.

Step 9

Next, highlight those two cells and move your mouse to the bottom right-hand corner of the highlighted cells, until you notice your mouse icon changes to a black cross. Once this happens, double-click your mouse. The data should now fill down to the last student in the file.
If this does not work, you should alternatively be able to hold and drag your mouse down until you reach the last student, and this should copy the year/semester all the way down to the bottom row of student data.

Step 10

Save/rename the files.

We suggest adding the calendar year and the word NAPLAN to each file name:

2025_NAPLAN_data_Yr3.csv
2025_NAPLAN_data_Yr5.csv

However, it does not matter what you call the files, just so long as you understand what they are.

Step 11

Import these files into your SPAplatform account.
