Uploading NAPLAN Data into SPA

To access the full NAPLAN analysis in SPA, schools must complete two separate uploads at three different times of the year.

Step 1: Upload Student & School Summary Report (SSSR)

The SSSR provides detailed diagnostic data/Question Level data for students/cohorts. Once these SSSR files have been uploaded to SPA, they will appear in the 'SSSR Cohort' & 'SSSR Individual' analysis tabs inside SPA.

When is it available?

May (Term 2) – Preliminary Release (All Australian Schools)
Includes:

• Reading
• Numeracy
• Spelling
• Grammar & Punctuation

⚠ Writing data is not included at this stage.

Schools should download their preliminary SSSR file from ACARA's website to export the Reading, Numeracy, Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation diagnostic results and upload them to SPA. Once these files have been uploaded to SPA, they will appear in the 'SSSR Cohort' & 'SSSR Individual' analysis tabs inside SPA.

Late June (End of Term 2) – Updated Release
Includes:

• Writing results (10 writing criteria scores)

• All previously released diagnostic data

Schools should re-download their SSSR file from ACARA's website to export the Writing diagnostic results and upload them to SPA. Once the writing SSSR files have been uploaded to SPA, the data will appear in the 'SSSR Individual' analysis tab only inside SPA.

Access SSSR files when they are released in Term 2 (May – preliminary, June – updated with Writing).

👉 Victorian Government Schools (VCAA Data Service – July/August & Previous Years)
If SSSR files were not accessed during the May/June release, they become available via the VCAA Data Service when final Outcome Level data is released in July/August. Victorian Government schools can also access previous years of SSSR data through this service.

Step 2: Upload Outcome Level Data (Final NAPLAN Scores)

Outcome Level Data contains the final NAPLAN scale scores students received. Outcome level results will appear in the first nine NAPLAN analysis tabs inside SPA (Single Year Analysis through to Growth Trend Analysis) 

When is it available?

Early Term 3 (July/August)

This data:

• Shows final NAPLAN scale scores

• Is required for longitudinal analysis and growth tracking in SPA

• Is released in different formats depending on your state and/or sector
