Sitting Tags
Overview
The Sitting Tags feature makes it easier to analyse SPAmarkbook results by allowing you to group multiple test sittings into a single testing round.
In many schools, a test may have been marked on several days. Without 'tags' SPAplatform displays each test date separately in both the SPAmarkbook analysis and in the SPAtracker tables of results, which can make data/tables harder to interpret.
Sitting Tags allow you to group these separate sittings/dates under one label (called a tag), so they appear as a single testing round in your analysis.
For example:
|
Without tags (By Date) |
With tags (By Tags) |
|---|---|
| 3 February 2025 | 2025 Round 1 |
| 5 February 2025 | 2025 Round 1 |
This reduces clutter and provides clearer, more meaningful analysis.
Assigning Sitting Tags
When working in SPAmarkbook (either the marking or analysis sections), locate the By Date / By Tag toggle.
Select By Tag to organise sittings by tag instead of by individual date.

Clicking “By Tag” will organise the sittings by the tags they are assigned. By default, all sittings will start out under “(No Tag)”, which means they have not been assigned a tag:

To create a new tag
-
Click 'Edit tags' (grey button on the right side of the screen)
-
Click Add New Tag (Green button on the left side of the screen)
-
A new tag will be created for the selected year (ie- 2025 Round 1)

Clicking the “Add New Tag” button multiple times will continue to add further rounds to that year. If you add too many, you can click the “Remove Tag” button to remove the extraneous ones. (Any sittings currently under the removed tag will be returned to the “(No Tag)” area).
To assign sittings to a tag
-
Click and drag a sitting (test date)
-
Drop it into the desired tag. Aim for the white space below the heading. When the tag area expands, release the sitting. This assigns the sitting to that testing round.
To remove a tag
-
Click Remove Tag
-
Any sittings within that tag will return to (No Tag)
To collapse or expand tags
- Use the Collapse All / Expand All button
Saving your changes
After assigning tags, click the Save icon.
If you do not click Save, your changes will not be recorded.
To discard changes, click Cancel instead.

Analysing tag
It is now possible to analyse your SPAmarkbook data by tag in both SPAmarkbook and SPAtracker. The “By Date / By Tag” toggle has been added to these pages:

Inside SPAtracker, by selecting “By Tag” on the Markbook Single Year Analysis, Markbook Growth Analysis, or Markbook Trend Analysis tabs, the analysis view will be organised by tag instead of by date. Please note that:
Important notes
Most recent result is used
If a student was tested more than once within the same tag, SPAplatform uses the most recent result for analysis.
Example:
| Student | Date | Tag | Result used |
|---|---|---|---|
| Student A | 3 Feb 2025 | 2025 Round 1 | |
| Student A | 5 Feb 2025 | 2025 Round 1 | ✔ 5 Feb result |
Untagged sittings
If sittings are not tagged, but you choose to sort your data in SPAstracker 'By tag' they will appear under (No Tag) and will be treated as a single group.
Growth Analysis requirements
Growth Analysis requires at least two tags per test (for example, a Round 1 and Round 2).
If fewer than two tags are available, the test will not appear in Growth Analysis.
Basic Tests
Basic Tests cannot be tagged. These tests will continue to be displayed by date.
